Make a theme

A theme sets the look of the verse slides: the background, the fonts, and the place of the verse and its reference.

The Themes panel

The Themes panel shows the themes that you made and the templates. Click a theme to show each slide in it. The text box at the bottom of the panel sets the text of the logo screen.

Right-click a theme to edit, duplicate, or delete it. You cannot change a template, but Customize makes a new theme from it.

Make a theme

  1. In the Themes tab bar, click New theme. To start from a template, put the pointer on the template, then click its pencil button.
  2. In the theme builder, click the verse, the reference, or the background on the preview or in the Layers list. The settings of that layer show at the right, and the large preview shows the result.
  3. Click Save theme.

What a theme sets

In the theme builder, you can set these parts of a theme:

  • The background: a color, a gradient, or a picture or video from Media. A picture or video background can be more transparent and can have a blur. A video background plays without sound, in a loop.
  • A color over the background, and a vignette at the edges of the screen. They make text on a picture easier to read.
  • A grain or grid texture over the background.
  • The font, weight, style, size, color, alignment, line height, and letter spacing of the verse and of its reference.
  • The place of the reference: above the verse, below the verse, in an area of its own, or hidden.
  • The area of the verse and the area of the reference.
  • The color of the verse numbers, or no verse numbers.
  • The highlight color of the marked words.
  • A shadow, a glow, an outline, a picture texture, and a blend for the verse and the reference.
  • Color changes for a picture background.
  • Layers: text, pictures, and shapes that each slide of the theme shows, behind the verse or in front of it. Some examples are a decoration, a panel behind the verse, or a logo.

To add a layer, click one of the buttons under Add a layer, below the Layers list. To move a layer, drag it on the preview. To remove a layer, push Delete.

Move the areas

  • To move an area, drag it on the preview.
  • To change the size of an area, drag a corner of it.
  • To move the selected area with the keyboard, push the arrow keys. With Shift, the arrow keys move it farther.
  • To move an area freely, hold Option (Alt on Windows) while you drag it.
  • To give a reference next to the verse an area of its own, drag the reference.

An area aligns to the edges and the middle of the screen and of the other area. Red lines show where it aligns.

Text size and fonts

The size of the text is its largest size. When a passage is long, its text becomes smaller so that all of it shows in its area.

The font menu shows the fonts that FlowCast includes and all the fonts on the computer. The included fonts look the same on each computer. If a theme uses a font that a different computer does not have, that computer shows a similar font.

To share a theme with a different computer, export it as a FlowCast bundle. Refer to Presentations and ProPresenter import.
